Nailstock 2009 is cancelled!

We will not be holding the event this year.

Nailstock is a community-run free music festival, celebrating local bands and muscians. For details of the event see our Event Details page.

"Just wanted to say thanks to all the Nailstock organisers, it was a fantastic festival and we really enjoyed playing there."

We regret to announce that we have been forced to make the decision to cancel this year's Nailstock. The Festival has been held for many years on the King George Vth Field in Nailsworth, which is held by the Nailsworth Town Council for the benefit of Nailsworth residents.

We really hoped that we would be able to carry on the wonderful tradition of our local music festival but when dealing with Nailsworth Town Council over this year's event we have been faced with antipathy, delays and a significant lack of enthusiasm or assistance. Under thse circumstances we do not feel that we can carry on with the event this year. See the Press Release here. The Nailsworth Festival (which Nailstock is a part of) will be taking place this year and details can be found here.

"I hope as a musician and general festival goer that Nailstock will continue to provide a great platform for local music."

If you'd like to comment on the decision and the future of Nailstock, please use the comment facility here or you can get involved by logging on to the Nailstock Board in the 'A Nailsworth Forum' and chatting away there.:

Damn Shame!
As a Park Road resident of pensionable age I am very, very sorry to hear that I shan't be able to attend Nailstock this year. It was a highlight for me.

Shame on Nailsworth Town Council!

Market
Itook part as a trader last year and enjoyed it very much and found the people of Nailsworth very enthusiastic and supportive of our fair trade and ethical businesses. Is there any chance of providing a similar market during the Nailsworth festival in the absence of the Nailstock event?

This is really sad. I am an old resident of Stroud and now live in Bristol. A similar thing happened here a couple of years ago with the pulling of the Ashton Court Festival which had been going since the 70\'s. With new safety laws and police reinforcements asking so much money it nearly impossible to put on an event in your local community. Rebellion is near!!!!!!

Nailstock
Is such a shame if Nailstock does not take place in 2009, so many people look forward to it each year and is such a great event for the community, such a shame one or two lowlifes can ruin an event for so many people, is there any chance of having anything in place of nailstock, the festival will seem somewhat bear without it

Shocking
Shocking that Nailsworth Town Council can allow this to happen, after all the hard work, ideas, suggestions, and committment that has been put into Nailstock by the organisers, bands, traders, etc...

Appears that the Town Council are worried that the event over shadows the Festival, after all it is the reason most people visit the town over this period.

Of course there were issues last year, but the organisers reacted reassuringly well, under extreme pressures.

The Town Councillors need to take along hard look at themselves, and realise that they have taken a collective decision to stop unique visitors from around the area who may never visit the town for any other reason, spending and putting money into the coffers of local businesses. Indeed a brave decision in the face of current financial adversities.

A real sad loss for a great town
I think this is such a shame for Nailsworth. I'm personally really shocked that a local council did not, no, would not embrace such an event like this, where local people - young and old worked hard together creating a truely great and very well known musical event. Wouldn't a town council be proud and want to show off all these talented locals like the rest of us did?????? and we're left with the Nailsworth Festival... 'arts, crafts, poetry and history walks'.. ooooooh I can barely contain myself i'm sure they'll top 4000 people easy with that sort of exciting line up. THANKS

Disgusting
We played last year and are Nailsworthians...its disgusting that the town council have made such as decision. Its no suprise either that no one on the town council is under the age of 50... very single minded of our completely out of touch local authorities!!!!
Well done for last year Nailstock team, we look forward to championing next years event!

Shame on the Council!
SHAME! pathetic! They Wouldn't know a good time if it came and slapped em in the face. Why is there not support for music and dancing in the sun? A pleasure for young and old alike, good family entertainment. I suppose really we should shuffle the oldies in front of the tele and the kids can take drugs in the bus shelter, much better for everyone.
