Organisers are urging people to get involved and secure Nailstock's future

The organisers behind this year's postponed Nailstock, which was due to take place over the Royal wedding and bank holiday weekend, are urging people to come forward to ensure the event's future.

While some of the bands due to be seen at the Nailsworth event in the end performing at venues around the five valleys over the weekend, it's hoped that an organised and fully funded Nailstock will take place next year.

"It all depends on the community. We want to see people coming forward to demonstrate their enthusiasm and show support, or better still, become involved," said the event’s director Chris Gregory.

"There are hundreds of supporters on the Nailstock Facebook page indicating that there is widespread backing for the event," added Mr Gregory: "We urge them and as many people from the local community as possible to attend our open meeting at the Nailswort Social Club on 10 May. We hope people will put forward ideas and suggestions to help shape the event in years to come."

The meeting takes place at the Brewery Lane-based social club in Nailsworth at 7.30pm.

PostHeaderIcon Pubs Keep Music Live After Nailstock Postponed

NAILSTOCK may be postponed this year, but pubs and clubs across the Five Valleys are taking up the mantle for a weekend of music.

Some bands from the line-up of Nailstock 2011, which was postponed earlier this month due to a lack of advance ticket sales, will now perform at The Village Inn, Nailsworth, The Prince Albert in Rodborough and Junction 13 nightclub in Stroud over the royal wedding weekend.
Nailstock was due to take place at the King George V playing field in Nailsworth on April 29, 30 and May 1, but organisers were forced to call off the event because not enough tickets were sold to cover upfront costs.

Organiser Chris Gregory said:  “All three new venues will be hosting a weekend of music, food and other entertainment, with high-profile Nailstock performers Ben and Ru, Hot Feet, Thee Ones and Tom McNair are all confirmed. At the Prince Albert in Rodborough, landlady Lotte Lyster has organised music, pizza from the legendary Chadwick oven, a barbecue and a screening of the royal wedding."

Lotte said: “We had such a great time putting together the line-up for the event, so we were gutted when we heard the event had to be cancelled. All the performers worked really hard on preparing their sets for Nailstock, and we didn’t want that to go to waste. Now all we need to hope for is glorious weather.”

Sam Barclay at The Village has organised for The Dustmites to play on Friday and the band Zool, which has twice missed out on headlining Nailstock, will play on the Saturday night for free.

PostHeaderIcon PRESS RELEASE 13thApril 2011

Nailstock 2011 postponed until 2012

Regrettably the Nailstock Festival scheduled for 2011 has had to be postponed due to lack of ticket sales.
The Nailstock organising committee met on the 12thof April and voted to postpone the event until 2012.
This decision was taken in order to protect traders, performers and festival goers as advanced ticket sales where not strong enough to guarantee the event could go forward.

This was to be the first year that the event was a ticket only event rather than free entry. This was as a result of the 2008 event being so popular that licensing has been imposed requiring much more rigorous control on numbers attending.

Also Spiralling costs associated with security, licensing, and equipment meant that without strong advanced sales the event could potentially not cover its costs. The event was designed to make a profit to be used to support local organisations and services such as the sub rooms, Nailsworth Youth centre and Nailsworth Library. All organisation has been on a voluntary basis and the 100s of hours expended will now be in invested in planning next years event.

All ticket holders will be refunded and deposits made by traders will also be returned. Those people who supported the festival by buying advanced tickets will also be offered a discount next year in recognition.

We realise that this news will be disappointing to many local people but hope that given the circumstances this will be recognised as the right decision.
